Research on the Selection and Optimization of Energy Storage for New Energy Bases in Desert-Gobi-Barren Regions

  • The third Ultra-high Voltage Direct Current Transmission Corridor (Xinjiang Power Outbound Project), a key component of China's 14th Five-Year Plan, is supported by a 6.1 GW renewable energy project in the northern foothills of the Tianshan Mountains, including a 1.2 GW/4.8 GWh energy storage system. This study explores the selection and optimization of energy storage technologies with the objectives of enhancing grid regulation capacity and promoting renewable energy integration. Considerations include overall station layout, storage technology selection, system architecture, battery and battery management systems, PCS selection, and energy management system functions. The study also discusses grid-forming storage deployment. The findings provide valuable insights and references for the development of large-scale energy storage in renewable energy bases.
